Serra de Barbanza

A classic Galician ride! A big climb. Sweeping views.  Rolling ups and downs past quaint farms and vineyards and through forests.

The ride begins with a stroll along the sea coast to give the legs a bit of a warmup. It then climbs to the top of the Serra de Barbanza, 2100 feet in 6 miles, with some pitches in excess of 15%. Once at the top, the route rolls along the spine of the Barbanza giving great views of the Ria de Muros and Noia and the Ria de Arousa, then down to the valley floor along farms, vineyards, forests and “moon rocks”. The ride then skirts the southern edge of Noia and heads back up for one last climb, albeit shorter and less steep than the first.  After that, it is a downhill and a flat course back to Porto do Son.

This ride is meant to be enjoyed and just “ridden”. Turn off the power meter, the time piece, the speedometer and the heart rate monitor, but …. keep the GPS to find the route!

Gravel Girl rates this as a 5 star ride.
