Burnt Timber

Development Route

This route showcases the raw beauty of the ancient Siuslaw National Forest and some of its seriously stout hills. It is a take-off of the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic (Son of Abomination), but instead of the start / finish in Waldport the start / finish is in Yachats.

If you are looking for a longer route, in the same general area, check out Cannibal.

The Dirty Freehub teams has not ridden this route, thus the Training Route designation.

I did this ride today. The road surface is very good throughout. No downed trees or other impediments.

The first climb and descent is FS-53, a fun climb on gravel and old tarmac. The descent is fast, on good tarmac for the most part.

The second peak is FS-5360. This is a tough gravel climb, especially the second half which has no relief. The descent is all gravel, much of it loose, requiring attentiveness.

It was a great way to beat the heat!
